Edge at WCDS
Edge Fearless Learning exists to make sure every child has the literacy and math support they need, no matter where they are starting from. We do this through three access points.
First, On-Campus Intervention
At WCDS, we have two dedicated interventionists: Lori in literacy and Jordan in math. They push into classrooms daily and provide support across three tiers of instruction. That means students who are struggling get targeted intervention, students in the core classroom get extra support when needed, and students ready for acceleration receive enrichment materials so they’re challenged at their level. In addition, some of our most vulnerable learners receive help from virtual tutors, funded through grants, to provide a different kind of support alongside the 3-tier model.
Second, Community Partnerships
Edge extends well beyond this campus. We partner with Boys & Girls Clubs, Salvation Armies, and YMCAs to reach students who would otherwise never have access to structured literacy or math intervention. To date, we’ve served over 1700 students (and counting) in school districts and after-school sites across our region, providing them with crucial intervention. Locally, we support students in person at Laughlin Chapel, while most of our other partnerships are virtual, ensuring that location is never a barrier to learning.
Third, Direct-to-Family Tutoring
Families can also come directly to Edge. We offer both in-person and virtual intervention tutoring that’s completely tailored to the child. A diagnosis is not required, any student who needs support or enrichment can access Edge’s services.
So whether it’s on campus, through community partnerships, or directly with families, Edge ensures every learner is met exactly where they are and given the tools to grow.

Edge in Every Classroom
At WCDS, academic support isn’t something extra—it’s part of how we teach every day. Edge specialists work directly in classrooms across grade levels, partnering with teachers to lead small groups, offer targeted instruction, and adapt lessons to meet individual needs in real time.
Because support happens within the school day, students stay connected to their peers and don’t miss out on core learning experiences. Whether a child needs extra practice, enrichment, or just a different approach, Edge makes sure help is available without stigma or disruption.
This built-in model ensures that every student is seen, supported, and empowered to grow with confidence.
How Edge Reaches Learners
Edge is flexible, accessible, and designed to meet students wherever they are—academically and geographically. With multiple ways to engage, families can choose the format that works best for their child’s needs and schedule.
Students can receive in-person support on the WCDS campus in Woodsdale and at our Middle School at Wheeling Park. With one-on-one or small-group sessions in reading, writing, and math, our on-site interventionists offer focused, personalized support in a quiet, nurturing space.
Through partnerships with out-of-school programs like the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA, Edge provides structured reading tutoring embedded into existing afterschool schedules. These small-group sessions bring fearless learning directly to students in familiar environments.
Geography shouldn’t limit opportunity. Our virtual tutoring program gives students access to expert instruction from anywhere, using proven strategies to support reading, writing, and math. Every session is tailored to help learners build skills and confidence in a format that works for them
