What inspired you to become a teacher?
Obviously my love for children, however, years ago I was working summer camp and I fell in love with two little boys who were on the spectrum and they ignited a passion I didn’t know existed. I became fascinated with how their brilliant little minds worked.
Who inspires you the most?
A few people honestly. My husband inspires me with his support and patience, and believe me, he needs a lot of it, and his ability to never make me feel crazy when I come up with grandiose ideas for the future. My children, I would not be the person I am today if I hadn’t been chosen to be their mom. Lastly, Liz Hofreuter. She saw something in me that I hadn’t seen in myself, I wouldn’t be the teacher I am if it weren’t for her. All of these people have changed my life.
What adjectives would you use to describe your presence in the classroom?
Passionate, loving, loud, a little crazy, and fun
How has becoming a teacher changed for you over the years?
I think every year I acquire more patience, and every year I think I have it all figured out, only to find out, there is always more to learn!
If you weren’t teaching, what career would you have chosen?
I would have been an author of children’s books… although… I haven’t given up on that … stay tuned!
What impact or legacy do you hope to leave to your students?
I hope that if they remember me, that they remember how much I loved them, how much joy they have brought to my life, and that I poured everything I had into making sure they fell in love with learning.
What are some of the most important life skills you hope to instill in your students?
First, always be kind, kinder than is necessary. Be true to yourself, you are amazing just exactly as you are, never let anyone dim your joy or your fire.
