Elizabeth Day’s legacy at WCDS is marked by her heartfelt dedication to students and families, inspiring generations through her love and leadership.

Elizabeth Day’s journey with Wheeling Country Day School began as a substitute teacher, where her warmth and dedication quickly became a beloved presence. A 1970 student named Hope Caldwell once remarked, “Although this is her first full-time teaching position, she is no stranger to WCDS.” Elizabeth’s deep commitment to WCDS went far beyond the classroom; her scrapbooks, filled with newspaper clippings, pictures, and personal notes, serve as a testament to her enduring love for the children and families of the school.

In 1978, after six years and four different headmasters, Elizabeth accepted the role of Head of School. Under her visionary leadership, she brought in private tutors, a reading specialist, a school psychologist, and accelerated math classes, enriching the learning environment and supporting students in meaningful ways.

Elizabeth Day’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, compassion, and inspiration, shaping the lives of countless students and families, and leaving a lasting impact on the WCDS community.
