Marge Sims’ legacy at WCDS is marked by her heartfelt dedication, inspiring students to feel seen, valued, and eager to learn.
Marge Sims dedicated her career to fostering curiosity, growth, and a love for learning in children. Her passion for teaching was driven by her deep affection for all students and the joy she found in watching them blossom and grasp new concepts. At Wheeling Country Day School, she embraced the school’s commitment to academic excellence and the social development of each child, pouring her heart into its vibrant, nurturing community.
Beloved by her students, Marge was known for her thoughtful gestures—handwritten notes, special last-day-of-school celebrations, and personal touches that made students feel seen and valued. As former student Natalie Nortemen Bartner recalls, “She really saw me and each one of my classmates. By doing so, she let me feel that I mattered. You wanted to work hard and do your best for her.”
Marge’s influence extended beyond the classroom, serving as interim Head of School in 1985 and as Director of Wheeling Park Day Camp, where she impacted the lives of hundreds of children. Her legacy at WCDS is one of warmth, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to students.
