Odgen Nutting

Trustee, 1970-1973

Ogden Nutting’s enduring love for WCDS lives on in every corner of the school, a legacy of leadership and care that spans generations.

Ogden Nutting’s connection to Wheeling Country Day School was defined by his steadfast support, wise counsel, and deep affection for the school community. Known for his impressive achievements and leadership across various levels, Ogden was a giant within the local and state community, as well as the broader region. He and his wife, Snookie, were honored individually in the Wheeling Hall of Fame for their distinct contributions, marking them as the first married couple to be inducted.

Ogden’s commitment to WCDS extended beyond formal roles, such as his pivotal board leadership in the 1970s and the Nutting Family Foundation’s transformative gift during the school’s recent capital campaign. This generous support ensured that WCDS could evolve its campus without incurring debt. More personal moments, however, define his legacy at WCDS—like attending Grandparents Days, particularly for his beloved grandson Ogden, and joining Thanksgiving lunches for years. His genuine interest in the school community and guidance during key decisions have left an indelible mark on the school.

Ogden Nutting’s love for WCDS was evident in both grand gestures and quiet moments, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.
