Growing up, who was your most inspirational teacher, and why?

Mrs. Carroll – my middle school Language Arts teacher and speech team coach. She inspired me to find my “voice.” She knew I was comfortable in front of others but would often shy away from being in the spotlight. She encouraged me to take on storytelling/prose on the speech team. We worked together for hours after school preparing for speech team and forensics events, and she always encouraged me to really find the characters, bring their voices to life, pay attention to how they connected with the reader/viewer, and make that connection and voice come to life. I was very successful and went on to love the stage – singing, acting, heck even interacting and engaging with ease in front of a large, crowded gymnasium full of family members watching their Preschool students in their end-of-the-year program. I know Mrs. Carroll brought out that confidence and helped inspire me to grow into the confident communicator I am today.

What are some of the most important life skills you hope to instill in your students?

Kindness
To be caring and accepting of others
To smile
Be silly – don’t take life too seriously!
