Toni Bedway’s legacy of generosity and dedication continues to inspire WCDS and the broader community through his family’s ongoing commitment to service.
Toni Bedway’s legacy at Wheeling Country Day School is one of remarkable generosity, creativity, and dedication. Known for his spontaneous sketches of fellow trustees during meetings, Toni was a constant presence, always the first to volunteer his time and resources. Alongside Drs. Polack and Kappel, he helped resolve numerous challenges, such as establishing the school’s bus transportation, through his steadfast support and visionary solutions.
His son Jonathan recalls, “The two things that resonate the most with me about my father are the feeling of pure unconditional love that he gave me and my siblings, and his incredible work ethic. Even from a young age during the Depression, he sacrificed. I made a promise to work as hard as I could so as not to disappoint his name.”
Toni’s influence is evident not only in his own legacy but also through his children, who continue his dedication to service. Jonathan’s leadership on the WCDS board brought about the establishment of the Center for Multisensory Learning and the WCDS Middle School. His daughters Marianna, Marquita, and Kirsten serve as board members and advocates in various organizations across the country, continuing the Bedway family tradition of community involvement.
We honor Toni Bedway for his inspirational service to WCDS and his enduring impact on the school and beyond.
