29 Hours

Beginning Wednesday, November 15 at 3:00 and continuing for 29 hours (in honor of our founding in 1929), we are asking you to give to WCDS.

Now, for 29 hours, beginning 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, and ending 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2023, we’ll be asking you to give generously to Wheeling Country Day School, so we continue to Learn in Color.

Why is your contribution so crucial? It’s not just about the dollars; it’s about the power of our shared commitment to our children and every aspect of their lives touched by WCDS while they are students here and in all the years that follow.

Your participation at any level, sends a powerful message that we, as a WCDS community, believe in our school and what it does for your child’s future and for the future of education. Your commitment to give is a vote of confidence in our faculty and our collective ability to invest in a child’s future.

It’s Possible Here!

We’re here to make you proud, and we’re so thankful to be on this ride together.

29 Hours of Giving is a 29-hour participation drive to benefit the Wheeling Country Day School Annual Fund and every single member of the WCDS family. The official effort lasts from Wednesday, November 15 at 3:00 pm until Thursday, November 16 at 8:00 pm.

For years, 100% of the Wheeling Country Day School faculty has participated in the WCDS Annual Fund.

Help match their commitment with a contribution of at least $29 of your own today!

Wednesday, November 15

3:00 - 4:00 Kick it off with a $5000 Match

Every dollar you give up to $5000 will be matched during the first of our 29 hours by the generosity of Lisa and Barry Allen!  **The FIRST & LAST gift of the hour wins new WCDS Swag**

4:00 - 5:00 Send ‘em to the Keys

Our 8th graders traveled 2,610 miles and through 7 states to experience a trip of a lifetime at Seacamp.  Can we raise $2,610 to jump-start the fund for next year’s 8th grade?

5:00 - 6:00 Fourth x Four

4th grade practices 144 multiplication facts every day, per student. That’s 4,032 facts practiced every day. Can we raise $4,032 this hour for those big brains?!

6:00 - 7:00 How High?

The first year it was launched, the JoJo I weather balloon reached 89,000 ft. Guess the project’s highest point* in the decade since to win a gift card from Sheetz and rocket the current class to such heights by making this the overall goal of our 29 hours give-a-thon. (*closest to the nearest foot) – To hit the ground running, (or the sky flying, am I right?) this one comes with the added bonus of our first ever ‘share-a-thon’! For every like, comment, and share, Eric Hersey Web Design will generously donate $1 up to $500! So engage with me, people!

7:00 - 8:00 Kids Say the Darndest

We were fortunate enough to whisk the entire faculty and board away to Columbus a few weeks ago in order to collectively attend the ISACS Annual Conference. Before we left, we asked our students what they hoped their teachers would learn at ISACS, and here are their responses…

8:00 - 9:00 Practicing Your Scales

With the addition of Chelsey Keding as the new Middle School music teacher, the 7th grade has been exploring different instruments. They are learning Silent Night on the keyboard, ukelele, and drums for the Holiday Show. Don’t be silent during this hour! Give big and post a video in the comments of you or your child making music for a chance to win some WCDS Swag.

9:00 - 10:00 CCPI-accino

The Campus-City-Park-Initiative, or CCPI as we have all fondly come to know it (Thanks Mr Hladek!) is how WCDS plans to branch out while keeping our roots strong. Our Branch Classrooms have turned into Branch Campuses as we Learn In Color all over Wheeling.  Whether we’re at 8 Park Rd, downtown Wheeling, or over at Wheeling Park, our students are expanding their footprint and getting involved in their community. Help us stay involved and meet new partners in this hour dedicated to our CCPI. *The first gift of the hour wins a gift card to the new Cafe 1925 in Wheeling Park’s White Palace.

10:00 - 11:00 Edge - Learn (to be) Fearless.

Edge Fearless Learning, the newest and most exciting initiative to come out of WCDS in years, is not just spreading its wings, but also staying close to the nest, allowing every child at our school to receive some of the most impactful and up-to-date teaching strategies while helping our teachers stay on the cutting edge year after year. In short, we change minds, and you can too. Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1000 because Meagan and Jim Coffman believe in the power of Learning Fearlessly!

11:00 - 12:00 Midnight Snack!

We are closing our first day with the night owls!  Be the LAST gift of the day and you will win a gift card for your pick-me-up coffee at Sarah’s On Main.

Thursday, November 16

5:00 - 6:00 Early Risers

The FIRST gift of the day after 5:00 a.m. gets a gift card to our new Swag Store. And the first to share a pic of yourself enjoying coffee out of a WCDS mug in the comments wins a gift card to East Wheeling Clay Works to get one of your very own.

6:00 - 7:00 A Good Day's Goal

Well this one is up in the air, so to speak. Remember that lofty weather balloon goal? How far do we have to fly to make it happen? And to help us get there, we’re rewarding the largest single gift of the day with a chance for their child(ren) to star in a ‘Day in the Life’ advertisement for WCDS!

7:00 - 8:00 Put on the Red Light

Earlier this year while doing a deep dive on national parks, the 3rd graders took advantage of our branch campus at Wheeling Park to create RocksAnne, a snake made up of 24 painted rocks (one for each student in their class) as a way to bridge our Main Campus and Middle School campus. Today it has grown by five, making a total of 29 (is that our lucky number??). It’s going to take quite a few more rocks to make it to 8 Park Road, and it’s going to take quite a few more pennies to make our 29 Hour goal. How many can you chip in?

Here’s some added incentive for you, be the first person to have donated to WCDS during 29 Hours who can guess the correct number of “Roxanne’s” in the Police song Roxanne, wins some WCDS Swag!

8:00 - 9:00 WCDS BOOK IT! Program

SK has gone from pretending to be earthworms to being real-life bookworms! They will be reading and writing all this week, especially after heading to the Ohio County Library during their time at the Branch Campus today. If each of the 28 students reads 40 pages, that equals 1,120 pages. Can we raise at least $1,120 during this hour for SK?! It’s like the Pizza Hut program all over again! (keep an eye out this hour for our secret word of the day and another chance to win!)

9:00 - 10:00 Little Bookies

Speaking of young bookies (the good kind), 1st Graders sure do love their book boxes. Every week, each of the 27 students puts 5 new books in their boxes. After 13 short weeks of school, that equals 1,755 books read by our first graders alone! Let’s raise at least $1,755 during this hour to celebrate our 1st-grade bibliophiles!

10:00 - 11:00 JK! JK! JK!

The Junior Kindergarten class is exploring the idea of a “community,” and we have to say this year’s class is quite tight-knit! They are loving, enthusiastic, and supportive of each other’s ideas. So, you can imagine when a classroom chant starts up, (for literally anything – their favorite song or the Halloween hayride or an impromptu race around the playground loop) they all join in! In roughly 60 school days, with 18 children’s voices in rhythm, we’ve had 1,080 chants of joy! Let’s raise this amount this hour to support the wonderful Junior Kindergarten community. JK! JK! JK!

11:00 - 12:00 Hot Seat!

What questions do you have for Liz? Ask her anything! It’s like a Reddit AMA, only healthier with less bots. This hour doubles your donation with an anonymous $2,500 matching gift! Plus, shhh, the first to claim the secret word wins new WCDS Swag.

12:00 - 1:00 Let’s do Lunch

Join us for lunch!  Tag us in a picture of your lunch and use the hashtag #29HoursLunch for a chance to win a gift card from Drover’s Inn and Coleman’s Fish and a tip of the cap from Chef Nathan himself!

1:00 - 2:00 Preschool Selfies

Watch how we grow!  Every month the PS students make a new self-portrait that hangs on the wall of their classroom. This month they are on their 3rd round, making a total of 66 self-portraits so far.  Think about a $66 gift during this hour to celebrate our preschool artists in residence!

2:00 - 3:00 We Two Little Explorers

26 We Two/Little Explorer students + 3 teachers = 29 (there’s that number again)! Each week, 26 students spend Friday mornings socially engaging with other children of similar age, as well as further developing their cognitive skills. Parents & caregivers are active partners with their children, engaging with various materials offered each week. Add the 3 teachers to provide a safe, interactive setting to promote their potential, and you have 29 fantastic learners on campus in We Two/Little Explorers!

3:00 - 4:00 AdventureTime

The 6th Grade spent 84 hours away from home at The Science Adventure School during their first week of middle school. Consider making a gift of $84 or more to celebrate these brave adventurers.

4:00 - 5:00 2nd Grade Book Reporters

2nd grade just finished their first book report of the year! (could reading be a theme this year??) Each student brought in three items from home to share while they presented to their classmates making connections to parts of their books. So, 24 students each bringing in three items each is 72 total items! How many $72 gifts can we get this hour for 2nd Grade?

5:00 - 6:00 Guess Who’s Turning 95??

Can you believe WCDS is going to be 95?! She doesn’t look a day over 29! Help us celebrate 95 years of exemplary education by giving a gift of $95 or more during this hour. Alumni, past faculty, and past board members, this is your hour! Show WCDS how much she has meant to you.

6:00 - 8:00 Final Match - It’s Only Been 29 Hours?!

In the final two hours, it’s simple: raise $10,000 and it becomes $20,000, Just.Like.That. thanks to a massive closing donation from Murray Mining. Make a minimum gift of $100 during this match. 100% of the faculty has given to the Annual Fund this year, 100% of the WCDS Board of Trustees has given, how close can WCDS families come to matching them?!
