Welcome to all the new families and welcome back to all our returning families! The 2021-2022 school year is already off to a true WCDS start with Come Back Kids, in which students are learning in nontraditional ways through play and exploration, and in nontraditional classrooms like Big Wheeling Creek. We are so lucky to be a part of a school that empowers our kids to think, to create, and to communicate in a safe space where learning and character are paramount.
I have been a WCDS parent for 11 years now and I am a proud WCDS alumna. I am honored to be getting another go at being the PFA President this year. As a parent you are a part of the Parent Faculty Association (PFA). The PFA at WCDS is a partnership between the student families and faculty, aimed at supporting the mission of the School and also gives us the ability to be more involved in our children’s education. The PFA provides funds and resources throughout the year for special programs, events, and field trips. These include holiday celebrations, Student Appreciation Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, Field Day, and the Duck Race, just to name a few.
As always, the success of the PFA depends on your support and active involvement throughout the school year. Volunteer opportunities may look different this year than in years past, but I encourage you to consider them when they are available. Events and fundraisers will likely still look different this year but we hope to be able to gather when possible in a safe and responsible way. While things may look different this year, the one thing that will not be different is the fact that our Head of School, Liz Hofreuter, and the entire WCDS faculty will always have our children’s best interests at the center of their decision making. I, for one, am very grateful that our kids are going back to school masked and with the appropriate and recommended protocols in place to keep them safe so they can concentrate on what’s really important, learning and growing.
