Our independent school is a student-centered, active, family-oriented environment. Preschool – 8th-grade children are encouraged to take risks and develop confidence and pride in their ability to learn. 

We are looking for an elementary teacher committed to learning.

Elementary Teacher

Our faculty is collaborative and innovative. Teachers complement the strengths of WCDS and add their expertise and passion to enrich our excellent educational program and our vibrant professional learning community. Teachers work with administration and parents to nurture children both inside and outside the classroom. Provides for the safety and well-being of all students at all times, models appropriate and ethical behavior develops and teaches courses and curriculum, and assesses student learning. Through meetings, reports, and other vehicles, maintains communication with administrators, parents, and students. 

Essential Behaviors

  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Facilitate and nurture the development of each child.
  • Plan and implement curriculum based on the needs of individual children with respect for their interests, abilities, individual style, and pace of learning.
  • Plan and implement lesson plan activities and experiences that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Prepare the learning environment for children to engage in active exploration and interaction.
  • Partner with parents to develop educational goals and maintain regular communication between home and school.
  • Maintain records and reports on each child as assigned (attendance, health, progress, etc.) including daily documentation of individual needs, strengths, interests, service plans and meal counts for each child.
  • Implement the “redirection” positive discipline approach.
  • In cooperation with co-teachers, maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as needed.
  • Accept and implement feedback given by the division director.

General

  • Uphold the School’s Mission, Purpose and Core Values.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, tact and an unwavering positive attitude.
  • Stay up to date on industry standards, trends, developments and legal updates.

Teaching Candidates Need:

  • a flexible, creative, and enthusiastic approach to learning and collaborating
  • experienced passion for teaching children
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
  • facility with technology
  • enthusiasm about our school’s mission and philosophy
  • a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, early childhood education or content-specific major (masters preferred)
