In February 2023, the 7th grade students of Wheeling Country Day School invited everyone to their Holocaust Deep Dive Exhibition.
We met our middle schoolers at the Branch Classroom at Wheeling Park to hear what they learned for the past 12 weeks, and it’s been difficult to find the proper words since.
After Mrs Rutherford and Mrs Kramer traveled to Poland last summer to deep dive this history in person, they came home to develop this middle school scaled project. The classes researched and read first hand accounts, built models and scaled representations of life in wartime Europe, and challenged the public to remember our history, even the parts we’d prefer to forget.
Cheers to our teachers for taking on this project, to Rabbi Leif and other leaders in our Jewish community for offering their insights and support, and of course to the kids who handled these topics with the respect, care, and maturity they deserve.
